Big 12 Honors Two; WVU Ranks No. 7

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women's soccer duo Alli Magaletta and Bianca St. Georges have been named the Big 12 Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Today's awards are the first career honors for both Mountaineers. Magaletta is the second Mountaineer this season to be named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week (Michaela Abam, Oct. 10), while St. Georges is the fourth different Mountaineer to earn the defensive award.
A native of Chesterfield, Missouri, Magaletta's honor comes on the heels of her three-point showing in a pair of WVU matches at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. A midfielder, Magaletta assisted on Amandine Pierre-Louis' score in a 1-1 (2OT) draw against Texas Tech on Oct. 19. On Oct. 22, she tallied the team's game-winner in the 31st minute in a 2-0 win over TCU. The score was Magaletta's third of the season and second game-winner. All but one of her six career scores has been a game-winner.
Magaletta currently is tied for No. 3 on the team with nine points (3 G, 3 A).
St. Georges, a native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, helped the WVU defense hold the Red Raiders and the Horned Frogs to a combined 14 shots, with only three TTU attempts landing on-frame. TCU, who entered the match ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 with a 1.75 goals/game average, became the fifth team this season, and the second conference foe, to not place a shot on-goal against the Mountaineer backline. WVU's clean sheet against TCU was the team's 10th of the year.
Additionally, St. Georges assisted on Pierre-Louis and Magaletta's goals, pushing her season assist total to five, the second-best mark on the team.
The Mountaineers (13-3-1, 6-1-1) rank as high as No. 7 in this week's rankings, a position they hold in the Soccer America Women's Top 25. WVU also ranks No. 8 in this week's TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Division I Top 25 National Rankings and No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Stanford (15-1, 8-0 Pac-12) continues to rank No. 1 in the coaches poll and is followed by Duke (16-1, 9-0 ACC) at No. 2, South Carolina (14-1-1, 8-0-1 SEC) at No. 3, North Carolina (12-2-1, 8-0-1 ACC) at No. 4 and USC (13-1-1, 7-0-1 Pac-12) at No. 5.
UCLA (13-1-2, 6-1-1 Pac-12) ranks No. 6, UCF (12-1-1, 7-0-1 AAC) sits at No. 7 and Texas (13-1-2, 5-1-2) ranks No. 8. Virginia (10-3-4, 5-1-3 ACC) follows the Mountaineers at No. 10.
WVU is up one spot to No. 5 in this week's NCAA RPI, matching the team's season-high position from two weeks ago.
South Carolina continues to hold the No. 1 spot, with Stanford at No. 2 and UNC at No. 3. Duke sits ahead of the Mountaineers at No. 4.
UCF ranks No. 6 and is followed by Princeton (12-2, 4-1 Ivy) at No. 7 and Texas A&M (13-2-1, 8-1 SEC) at No. 8. Texas and Pepperdine (12-2-2, 6-0 WCC) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers close their regular-season slate at Kansas on Friday, Oct. 27, with first kick from Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas, set for 8 p.m. EST.
