The nation's leading touchdown combination, Will Grier and David Sills V, hooked up twice in the first half to give 23rd-ranked West Virginia a 17-6 halftime lead over winless Baylor.
Grier fired a 35-yard scoring pass to Sills late in the first quarter and the duo got the ball past the goal line once again late in the second quarter when Grier fired a 16-yard bullet to Sills in the middle of the end zone with just one second left in the half.
The play capped a beautiful eight-play, 80-yard drive that began with 1:04 remaining in the half.
The Mountaineers' other score came on Mike Molina's 27-yard field goal on their first possession of the game.
Baylor scored twice on Connor Martin field goals of distances of 23 and 42 yards.
Grier completed 15 of his 19 pass attempts for 191 yards, six going to Sills for 83 yards.
The WVU ground game managed just 56 yards on 18 attempts, but Kennedy McKoy netted 22 of those yards on the final drive of the half.
Baylor's Zach Smith completed 11-of-19 for 169 yards while the Bear ground game managed minus-5 yards on 15 attempts.
Baylor will kick off to West Virginia to begin the second half.
