MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team ranks as high as No. 6 in this week's national polls.
The Mountaineers (12-3, 5-1) jumped five spots to No. 6 in today's Soccer America Women's Top 25. WVU also ranks No. 7 in this week's TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Division I Top 25 National Rankings and No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Stanford (13-1, 6-0 Pac-12) received 26 first-place votes and ranks No. 1 in the Coaches Poll. UCLA (12-0-2, 5-0-1 Pac-12) earned three first-place votes and ranks No. 2, and South Carolina (13-1, 7-0 SEC) received the final two first-place votes and ranks No. 3. Duke (14-1, 7-0 ACC) sits at No. 4, and North Carolina (11-2, 7-0 ACC) follows at No. 5.
USC (11-1-1, 5-0-1 Pac-12) and UCF (10-1-1, 5-0-1 AAC) rank No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Penn State (10-3-2, 6-1-2 Big Ten) follows WVU at No. 9, and Texas (13-1-1, 5-1-1) rounds out the top 10.
The Mountaineers dropped one spot to No. 6 in this week's NCAA RPI. South Carolina continues to rank No. 1, and North Carolina ranks No. 2. Stanford and Duke sit at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, and UCF follows at No. 5.
Princeton (11-2, 3-1 Ivy) ranks behind WVU at No. 7, while Tennessee (13-1-1, 5-1-1 SEC) sits at No. 8. Texas A&M (11-2-1, 6-1 SEC) and Florida State (10-4, 4-3 ACC) round out the top 10.
WVU closes its regular-season home slate at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this week with a pair of matches. The Mountaineers face Texas Tech on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m., before kicking against TCU on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. The first 200 fans Thursday night will receive a free long sleeve shirt. Sunday is a Dollar Day, and all tickets and select concession will be available for $1 each. Additionally, the Mountaineers will honor their 2017 senior class prior to Sunday's kickoff.
