Red Raiders Lead WVU at Halftime

Shimonek completed 17-of-24 passes for 252 yards - two going to Vasher for 113 yards - and the Red Raider defense completely throttled West Virginia's run game, limiting the Mountaineers to minus-10 yards rushing on 12 attempts.
Mountaineer quarterback Will Grier completed 18 of his 22 pass attempts for 184 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown to David Sills V, but was also sacked twice and was constantly harassed by Tech's front three.
The Red Raiders had an opportunity to expand its lead to 31-17 right before the end of the first half, but Michael Barden's 20-yard field goal attempt hit the left upright.
He also missed a 43-yard attempt earlier in the second quarter.
Three times the West Virginia defense couldn't come up with turnovers, once when wide receiver Dylan Cantrell recovered his own fumble, another time when Elijah Battle dropped a sure interception and a third when Mike Daniels picked off Shimonek's pass in the end zone but Tech was awarded a first down when Xavier Preston was called for roughing the passer.
West Virginia will kick off to Texas Tech to begin the third quarter.
