The Mountaineers (7-3-3) travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, after a 1-0 upset victory over No. 5 Michigan State on Wednesday night. WVU is tied for third in the MAC with an 0-0-1 record after opening the league slate with a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Northern Illinois last weekend.
The Falcons (6-6) are tied for fifth place in the conference with an 0-1 record following a 3-1 loss at SIU Edwardsville on Saturday night.
Several WVU players rank among the national and league leaders in several statistical categories. Senior
Jad Arslan's three game-winning goals is No. 13 nationally and the best in the MAC. Sophomore
Albert Andres-Llop is second in the MAC with five goals, while Arslan's four rank him at No. 3. Junior
Jorge Quintanilla is also No. 2 in the league with five assists and 0.42 assists per game, and sophomore
Sebastian Garcia-Herreros ranks fourth with four assists. Andres-Llop sits in third in the league in total points (12) and points per game (1.00), while he is fourth with 0.42 goals per game.
In goal, junior
Stephen Banick is third in the league and No. 23 nationally with five shutouts. He is fourth in the MAC with a .718 save percentage.
As a team, West Virginia's seven shutouts and .538 shutout percentage ranks 18th nationally and No. 1 in the conference. WVU is also third in the MAC in total goals (17), total assists (18) and total points (52).
SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN
Bowling Green is 6-6 on the season and 0-1 in MAC play. The Falcons own a 4-1 record at home. BGSU opened the year with five consecutive shutout wins, but have lost six of its last seven, including a 3-1 defeat to SIUE in the conference opener. On Tuesday night, Bowling Green lost at Wright State, 2-0.
Eric Nichols is in his ninth season at Bowling Green. He is 68-72-24 at BGSU after earning MAC Coach of the Year accolades in 2016.
Chris Brennan and Moe Mustafa each have four goals for the Falcons, while Brennan has added four assists and has a team-best 12 points and 28 shots. Tate Robertson leads the team with five assists. Anthony Mwembia has started all 12 games in goal and has made 43 saves with a 0.99 goals-against average.
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE FALCONS
West Virginia is 3-6-1 all-time against Bowling Green and 2-3-1 as Mid-American Conference foes. BGSU has won the last three contests, 1-0 last year, 2-0 in 2015 and 3-2 in overtime in the 2014 MAC Tournament. WVU's lone road win in three games came in 2012, a 1-0 victory.

LAST TIME OUT: TOP-5 UPSET WIN
West Virginia upset No. 5 Michigan State, 1-0, on Oct. 11, to earn its first win over a top-10 team since a 1-0 victory against No. 7 Georgetown in last season's opening weekend. The win was WVU's first over a top-10 opponent at home since a 2-0 triumph over No. 1 UConn in 2011.
The Spartans, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA RPI and in the top 12 in all four major polls, were shut out for just the second time this season. West Virginia held MSU to a season-low-tying two shots on goal in the contest.
Andres-Llop netted the game-winner in the 51st minute. It was his team-leading fifth goal of the season, while Quintanilla assisted on the goal, registering his team-best fifth assist of the year.
MSU out-shot WVU 10-5, but West Virginia held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman keeper
Steven Tekesky made one save, while the Mountaineer defense cleared another shot off the line. Michigan State keeper Jimmy Hague stopped two shots.
Andres-Llop's game-winning goal came at 50:02. Junior
Rushawn Larmond took the ball around a defender and into the 18 on the far side, where he centered to senior
Louis Thomas. Thomas' shot was blocked, but the deflection went right to Quintanilla just inside the 18. He made the quick pass to Andres-Llop, who fired the ball on goal from the penalty kick mark and beat the Michigan State keeper.
