MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two-time West Virginia University women’s soccer All-American Ashley Lawrence has signed a two-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
A native of Toronto, Lawrence completed her medical exams on Dec. 29 and will join the team at training camp near Montpellier, France, later this week. PSG resumes play this month.
“This is a great time for Ashley to sign at the highest level in the French League,” Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “She is joining an incredible club. Paris Saint-Germain has so much to offer Ashley as she begins her professional career. I’m excited to watch her grow her game and continue her success at the professional level.”
“It’s an immense source of pride to join Paris Saint-Germain,” Lawrence said in the club’s official release. “Joining this very big club is the next step in my career. Everything the coach and directors had to say convinced me to sign here and give my all for the club. I have big ambitions here with Paris Saint-Germain.”
Lawrence, a midfielder, capped her four-year Mountaineer career by leading the team to its first-ever NCAA College Cup Final appearance. A two-time Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy semifinalist, she paced the team this season with 10 assists, a single-season career high and the third-best season showing in program history. Lawrence also finished second on the team with 18 points (4 G, 10 A).
A team-captain and four-time All-Big 12 First Team honoree, she left the WVU program ranked No. 3 all-time with 29 career assists. Lawrence started 87 of 91 career matches and tallied 63 (17 G, 29 A) career points.
A starter for the Canadian Women’s National Team, Lawrence helped Canada capture Bronze at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games. She also tallied a goal at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
