Updated NCAA Wrestling Rankings Released

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Jacob A. Smith went 2-0 on the weekend to move up in the rankings at 197 pounds while Dylan Cottrell remains nationally ranked at 165 in the latest national wrestling rankings released on Tuesday.
Smith defeated Derek White of Oklahoma State in a 2-1 decision on Friday before topping No. 20 Brad Johnson of Oklahoma on Sunday to move to 2-0 in Big 12 action. He moved up to No. 5 in both InterMat’s and FloWrestling’s rankings and has moved to No. 9 according to The Open Mat. Smith is 12-4 overall and 9-2 in duals this season. He extended his win streak to seven straight matches and is currently No. 6 in the first edition of the NCAA Division I Coaches’ Panel Rankings Index.
Cottrell falls to No. 12 in InterMat’s rankings and No. 16 according to FloWrestling after dropping back-to-back bouts to ranked foes last weekend. He comes in at No. 14 in The Open Mat’s rankings and is ranked ninth in the first Coaches’ Panel Rankings Index.
Cory Stainbrook joins the two in the Coaches’ Panel, ranking at No. 30 at 133 pounds.
West Virginia (2-10, 0-2) will take the weekend off before heading to Raleigh, North Carolina, on Feb. 5 for a 1 p.m. match at No. 8 NC State. ?
