MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer coach Marlon LeBlanc has announced that center back Pascal Derwaritsch has joined the Mountaineers in January 2017.
A native of Altlussheim, Germany, Derwaritsch will have three years of eligibility remaining after playing his freshman season at Saint Leo University (Fla.) in 2015.
“I am very excited to welcome Pascal to our program,” LeBlanc said. “Pascal is an excellent central defender, smooth on the ball and strong in the tackle. He’s a fantastic addition to our back line and he will have an immediate impact on our team.”
As a freshman, Derwaritsch started 17 games and scored two goals, including the game-winner against Tampa. He helped lead the Lions to a conference championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. He was named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2015.
Derwaritsch played club soccer for Tus Mechtersheim in 2014-15, where he was selected to play in the Futsal Championship. He helped his team finish second in the tournament.
As a member of SV Waldhof Mannheim in 2013-14, Derwaritsch helped his team win its league and get promoted. He played for SV Sandhausen prior to his time at SV Waldhof Mannheim.
Derwaritsch attended high school at Privatgymnasium St. Leon Rot and he will enroll in the sport management program at West Virginia. His parents are Heike and Guenter Derwaritsch.
