MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two members of the West Virginia University women’s soccer team have been called into camp with their national teams.
Junior defender Amandine Pierre-Louis is currently in Los Angeles training with the Canadian Women’s National Team. Sophomore midfielder Vanessa Flores begins training today with the Mexican Women’s National Team at the Mexican Football Federation High Performance Center.
The teams are training in preparation for a friendly match, set for Saturday, Feb. 4, at BC Place, in Vancouver.
The full national team call-up is the first for Pierre-Louis and Flores. Both Mountaineers previously competed with their countries’ U-20 teams.
A native of Montreal, Quebec, Pierre-Louis previously was a finalist for Canada’s U-17 Player of the Year honor and played with the Canadian U-20 Team at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada.
Pierre-Louis started all 27 matches at outside back for WVU in 2016. An All-Big 12 First Team honoree, she finished with five points, all assists, and helped the team post a program- and nation-best 18 shutouts.
Flores, a native of Baytown, Texas, most recently competed for Mexico at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Papua New Guinea. She also previously played with the U-17 team and captained the 2013 Mexican National Team at the 4 Nations Tournament Costa Rica.
She started six of 15 matches played with the Mountaineers this season and earned her first career assist.
