MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown announced today that midfielder Malia Kaleiohi has enrolled early to begin her four-year Mountaineer career.
A native of San Diego, Kaleiohi is the younger sister of current WVU junior Heather Kaleiohi.
“I’m so excited to have Malia enroll early and join the team,” Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “She’s going to bring a lot of energy to this program. Malia’s speed of play, competitive nature and versatility are going to be huge assets next season.
“I’ve never had siblings compete on the team at the same time, and I’m excited to coach my first pair of sisters.”
A member of the Albion Soccer Club, Kaleiohi helped lead the team to the 2015 United States Youth Soccer National Championship semifinals, where she was named to the Best XI Team. Additionally, she was a Puma V Elite Player selection in 2015.
A member of the Cal South Olympic Development Program, she was a team alternate in 2014. Kaleiohi also was among the U.S. National Team Training Camp player pool from 2011-12.
A two-year player at Horizon Christian Academy, Kaleiohi was a team captain as a sophomore and named to the All-Coastal Team and the Linfield Tournament MVP. She earned All-Coastal honorable mention honors as a rookie.
A graduate of Connections Academy, Kaleiohi also was a four-year member of the Horizon Surf Team (2012-16).
The daughter of Joseph and Deana Kaleiohi, she is enrolled in undergraduate studies.
