Mountaineers No. 4 in Two Polls

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team is on the move, as the Mountaineers climb to No. 4 in today’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Soccer America Polls.
WVU (8-1-1) sat at No. 5 in both polls one week ago. Today’s position matches the team’s second-best ranking in the NSCAA Poll this season.
Stanford (8-0-1, 1-0 Pac-12) ranks No. 1 in both polls.
Florida State (8-1-1, 2-0-1 ACC) ranks No. 2 in the NSCAA Poll and is followed by BYU (9-1) at No. 3. South Carolina (10-0-1, 4-0 SEC) ranks No. 5.
Georgetown (8-1-1, 0-0-1 Big East) sits at No. 6 and is followed by Virginia (8-2-1, 1-1-1 ACC) at No. 7 and Minnesota (9-2-1, 1-0-1 Big Ten) at No. 8. USC (7-2, 1-0 Pac-12) and Duke (7-2-2, 2-0-1 ACC) round out the top 10.
Oklahoma (9-2-1, 2-0 Big 12) enters the poll this week and sits at No. 23.
The Mountaineers also were ranked No. 3 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Top 25 Poll, as announced yesterday.
WVU, the four-time reigning Big 12 Conference champion, opens conference play this weekend at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The squad will face Baylor on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m., before kicking against the Sooners on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. Sunday’s match will be broadcast on ESPNU.
To celebrate the conference opener Friday night, 50 Big 12 t-shirts will be given out throughout the match. Fans also will have the opportunity to take a picture with the 2015 Big 12 Conference trophy, which will be on display in the stadium concourse prior to kickoff.
Sunday is the Mountaineers’ annual Pink Match, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. It also is Dollar Day, and all tickets will be available for $1 each.
