Mountaineers Move to No. 3

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team is up one spot to No. 3 in this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Top 25 Poll.
The Mountaineers (8-1-1) also sit at No. 5 in the second NCAA RPI of the season.
Stanford (8-0-1, 1-0 Pac-12) continues to hold the top spot, while BYU (9-1) sits at No. 2. Florida State (8-1-1, 2-0-1 ACC) ranks No. 4 and is followed by USC (7-2, 1-0 Pac-12) at No. 5.
Duke (7-2-2, 2-0-1 ACC) and UCLA (7-2, 1-0 Pac-12) rank No. 6 and No. 7, respectively, and Virginia (8-2-1, 1-1-1 ACC) ranks No. 8. Arkansas (11-1, 4-0 SEC) and South Carolina (10-0-1, 3-0 SEC) round out the top 10.
New to the poll this week is Oklahoma (9-2-1, 2-0 Big 12), who sits at No. 23.
The Mountaineers’ position in the latest RPI is one spot lower than their position in the first RPI, released last week. WVU finished its nonconference slate 3-1-1 against teams currently ranked inside the RPI top 25. Six Big 12 teams rank within the RPI top 50, including OU at No. 6.
Stanford sits at No. 1 and is followed by Georgetown (8-1-1, 0-0-1 Big East) at No. 2. BYU and South Carolina rank No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
Florida State sits at No. 7 behind the Mountaineers and the Sooners. Virginia, Arkansas and Florida (7-3, 2-2 SEC) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers, the four-time reigning Big 12 Conference champions, open conference play this weekend at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The squad will face Baylor on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m., before kicking against the Sooners on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. Sunday’s match will be broadcast on ESPNU.
To celebrate the conference opener Friday night, 50 Big 12 t-shirts will be given out throughout the match. Fans also will have the opportunity to take a picture with the 2015 Big 12 Conference trophy, which will be on display in the stadium concourse prior to kickoff.
Sunday is the Mountaineers’ annual Pink Match, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. It also is Dollar Day, and all tickets will be available for $1 each.
