In this week’s report, Mountaineer Bruce Irvin had a very productive debut with the Oakland Raiders, while Najee Goode re-signed with the Philadelphia Eagles last Saturday. Additionally, Marquis Lucas reached an injury settlement with the Buffalo Bills, thus removing him from the roster.

Tavon Austin and Los Angeles made their regular-season return to the NFL on Monday. Austin caught four passes for 13 yards and rushed one time for two yards. He returned four punts for an average of 9.5 yards per return, including a 28-yard return in a 28-0 loss to San Francisco. The Rams play host to Seattle in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Terrell Chestnut signed an undrafted free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers. Chestnut did not play during the preseason because of injury and was placed on injured reserve.

Terence Garvin recorded a tackle and played 15 snaps, as he opened his fourth NFL season on Monday. Garvin’s former team ,Pittsburgh, collected a 38-16 victory. Washington looks to regroup on Sunday, Sept. 18, against Dallas.

Najee Goode re-signed with Philadelphia on Saturday, Sept. 10, after being cut by the Eagles on Sept. 3. Goode replaced special teams tight end Trey Burton, who suffered a calf injury in practice on Friday. Goode played 23 snaps on special teams and one play on defense, as Philadelphia blew out Cleveland, 29-10. He has played in 29 games for the Eagles over the last three seasons and was third on the team in special teams tackles in 2015. The Eagles play at Chicago on Monday, Sept. 19.

In his debut with the Raiders, Bruce Irvin registered two tackles, three quarterback hurries, a sack and a forced fumble. Irvin’s forced fumble set up a Raider field goal in the opening quarter. Oakland scored a touchdown in the final minute to secure a 35-34 win at New Orleans. The Raiders play their home opener against Atlanta on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Next Game: Injured Reserve
Will Johnson signed a free agent contract with the New York Giants in April. Johnson had played in 47 straight games in the regular season with the Steelers, which was the third-longest active streak among NFL fullbacks. However, he suffered an injury early in the preseason and was placed on the Giants injured reserve list.

Adam Jones finished second on the team with six tackles in Cincinnati’s 23-22 win over the New York Jets on Sunday. Jones, now in his 10th season, returned a punt for six yards and two kickoffs for an average of 17.5 yards per return. Cincinnati takes on rival Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept. 18.

After being drafted 14th overall in the first round earlier this year, Karl Joseph made his professional regular-season debut on Sunday. Joseph played nine snaps, as Oakland edged New Orleans, 35-34. Joseph and the Raiders open the home slate on Sunday, Sept. 18, against Atlanta.

Nick Kwiatoski was selected 113th overall in the fourth round by the Chicago Bears. Kwiatkoski was limited most of the preseason due to a hamstring injury. He returned in the final preseason game and played 28 snaps at Cleveland. He was inactive in Chicago’s 23-14 loss at Houston on Sunday. The Bears play host to Philadelphia on Monday, Sept. 19.

Pat McAfee opened his eighth NFL season by averaging 44.0 yards per punts on four kicks. His longest punt of the day was a 52-yard bomb. The Colts fell, 39-35, to Detroit on Sunday. Indianapolis visits Denver on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Next Game: Practice Squad
Shaq Riddick is in his second professional season. The outside linebacker played in three of Arizona’s four preseason games, which included three combined tackles against Denver on Sept. 1. Riddick was placed on the Cardinals practice squad list to start the season.

Charles Sims had a productive start to his third NFL season. The Houston, Texas, native caught three passes for 32 yards and a touchdown and rushed four times for nine yards. Sims caught a 23-yard pass from quarterback Jameis Winston to put the Bucs up 17-13 at the half. The touchdown haul was the fifth in Sims’ career. Tampa Bay defeated Atlanta, 31-24, to open the season 1-0. The Buccaneers visit Arizona on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Wendell Smallwood made his pro debut after being picked 153rd overall in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Eagles this season. Smallwood played five total snaps.
