Mountaineers and Libraries Renew TD Challenge

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and WVU Libraries are teaming up again for the Mountaineer Touchdown Challenge, a fundraising campaign to benefit the Libraries.
The initiative, in its sixth year, enables participants to pledge a dollar amount per touchdown the Mountaineers score during the 2016 season and subsequent bowl game. The proceeds will support a project within the Libraries.
“The Mountaineer Touchdown Challenge is becoming more popular each year at West Virginia University,” Director of Athletics Shane Lyons said. “I’m asking all of our alumni and fans to embrace the Challenge and help us enhance the WVU student’s academic experience.”
Football coach Dana Holgorsen is excited for the season to start and is pleased to help academics through the team’s effort at winning games.
“Our offense is designed to throw a lot of passes and score a lot of touchdowns,” Holgorsen said. “If we achieve our goals, we will be in position to win games, make our fans happy and support the Libraries.”
Over the past few years, the Touchdown Challenge has assisted the Libraries with several projects within the Libraries. Topping the list is a presentation practice room equipped with digital cameras and a computer with cutting-edge software that streamlines the recording and editing process.
Student feedback will determine where the Libraries will direct funds raised during the 2016 Touchdown Challenge.
“We are thrilled for WVU Libraries to again be part of WVU’s proud football tradition,” Dean of Libraries Jon E. Cawthorne said. “We applaud Shane Lyons, Coach Holgorsen, every player and every fan who make the Touchdown Challenge a success.”
