Moore Bros. Lead the Way at Univ. Nationals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Zachary Moore and Keegan Moore both earned spots on the podium to lead the way for Mountaineer wrestlers at the 2016 University Freestyle Nationals at Stile Athletic Field House in Akron, Ohio, this weekend.
Representing the Morgantown-based Mountaineer Regional Training Center, Zachary Moore went 7-1 with three tech. falls on his way to a third-place finish at 65 kg. Keegan Moore posted a 6-2 mark with five tech. falls as he took seventh place at 61 kg. Devin Brown, William Jenkins, James Dekrone and Christian Monserrat also competed at the event.
After starting with a bye, Zachary Moore won a 12-1 tech. fall Pittsburgh Wrestling Club’s Robert Lee before winning a 10-0 tech. fall over Bloomsburg Wrestling’s Grant Bond. He won a hard-fought 8-6 decision against Jordan Shearer of Nebraska WTC to advance to the quarterfinals, where he fell to BWC’s Mitch Bengston. Moore bounced back with a 4-2 decision win over Billy Rupp of Terrapin Wrestling Club, then added a 10-0 tech. fall over Jamel Sharp of Packer Wrestling Academy in the ninth round of the consolation bracket. A 10-4 tech. fall of 2015 NCAA All-American Kevin Jack of Wolfpack Wrestling Club put Moore into the third-place match, where he avenged his earlier loss with a 10-3 decision over Bengtson.
Keegan Moore rolled to a 4-0 start after posting tech. falls against Greyhound Wrestling Club’s Kyle Keller (10-0), Scarlet Knights Wrestling Club’s Josh Patrick (10-0) and Virginia Beach RTC’s Brandon Jones (11-0) before defeating Jacob Rubio of Sooner Wrestling Club in a 6-5 decision. He dropped a 10-0 tech. fall to Tyler Graff of NYAC in the quarterfinals, but bounced back with a 10-0 tech. fall of Wolfpack Wrestling Club’s Sean Fausz in the consolation bracket. He suffered an 8-7 setback to Phillip Laux of Iowa before winning a 10-0 tech. fall over Ohio RTC’s Jose Rodriguez for seventh place.
Brown went 3-2 with a trio of tech. falls at 57 kg, defeating Buffalo Valley RTC’s Michael Macklin, 10-0, and Blue and Gold Wrestling Club’s Jacob Martin, 12-1. He also won a 12-0 tech. fall over Clarion Wrestling Club’s Brandon Howard.
Christian Monserrat won a 13-7 decision over App. State RTC’s Michael Longo, 13-7, at 70 kg while James Dekrone defeated Minnesota Storm’s James Berg in an 11-0 tech. fall at 70 kg.
