BARCELONA, SPAIN – Following a 19-hour travel day, the Mountaineers are have arrived in Europe!
The West Virginia University women’s soccer team kicked off its 10-day tour of Spain and France in Morgantown on Saturday, May 7. The squad bussed to Dulles Airport and flew eight hours into Paris. Once the plane landed near 8 a.m. local time, the Mountaineers made a connecting flight into Barcelona and checked into the Hotel Ciutat de Castelldefels at 1 p.m.
A nice, sit-down lunch at the hotel preceded a bus trip into central Barcelona for an introductory tour of the city and downtime. The team ended the long day with a 90-minute training session on the fields of FC Barcino, a local club.
This is the Mountaineers’ second trip in four years to the city of Barcelona. In 2012, the squad stayed in the central part of the city; this trip, the team is just two blocks from the beach and the Mediterranean Sea.
WVU will catch up on sleep tonight before embarking on a long day of sightseeing, shopping and eating in and around Barcelona on Monday. The Mountaineers will then face Europa FC tomorrow night at 9 p.m. local time for their first of two friendlies in Spain.
Stay tuned for more updates from the Mountaineers throughout their trip!
