LUBBOCK, Texas – The West Virginia University baseball team has earned the No. 4 seed at the 2016 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship and will face fifth-seeded Oklahoma in the opening round on Wednesday, May 25, at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT.
The annual event returns to Oklahoma City and Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark from May 25-29. Each game will be broadcast on FOX College Sports, with the exception of Sunday’s championship game, which will air on FOX Sports Networks. All games will also be available on FOX Sports GO to subscribers.
The Mountaineers’ No. 4 seed is their second-highest at the Big 12 Championship. WVU was seeded third in 2013, its first season in the Big 12, No. 6 in 2014 No. 7 a year ago. West Virginia is 3-5 all-time at the Big 12 Championship, going 2-1 in 2013, 1-2 in 2014 and 0-2 last year.
WVU was voted to finish sixth the conference in the preseason poll, as voted on by the league’s coaches.
West Virginia enters the postseason with a 33-21 record and a 12-11 mark in Big 12 play. Oklahoma is 28-25-1 and 11-13 in the Big 12. OU took the season series against WVU, 2-1, in Norman, Oklahoma.
The winner of the WVU-OU contest will play the winner between No. 1 Texas Tech and No. 8 Kansas State on Thursday, May 26, at 5 p.m. ET. In the double-elimination tournament, the losers of the two games on Wednesday will face off on Thursday at 10 a.m. ET.
On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Oklahoma State will play No. 7 Texas, while No. 3 TCU opens against No. 6 Baylor.
