MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will face Pitt in its second match of the spring season on Sunday, April 3, at 3 p.m., at the Petersen Sports Complex in Oakland, Pennsylvania.
The match is the Mountaineers’ first since dropping a 3-0 decision to the Western New York Flash on March 19.
“We are really excited to have another opportunity to play against another very good team this spring,” associate head coach Lisa Stoia said. “It’s always a good test to see the development of our team over the course of the spring as we continue to focus on improvement.
“We gained a lot of knowledge from our first spring match against the WNY Flash – we identified areas we need to improve and also showed where we can continue to have a lot of success. We hope to take advantage of this opportunity against Pitt and apply all the aspects of the game we continue to train on a daily basis.”
In their first spring contest, WVU held WNY Flash scoreless through the first 45 minutes before the home team got the ball behind sophomore Michelle Newhouse 52 seconds into the second half. The Flash added back-to-back goals in the 78th and 79th minutes. Newhouse played all 90 minutes in net for the Mountaineers.
Of note, WVU will be without juniors Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence throughout the spring season.
Pitt finished the 2015 season with a 10-7-1 record and posted four wins in conference play, the team’s most since entering the Atlantic Coast Conference three years ago.
