MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown announced today the 2016 Mountaineer spring schedule, featuring six matches throughout March and April, including two contests at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
“As with every spring season, we look forward to these matches as they provide us with a great opportunity to challenge a new team and to see how we’re going to come together by August,” Izzo-Brown said. “Our new players will have the opportunity to measure their development, and we will begin to map out our plans for the new year.”
The Mountaineers will again open their spring slate against the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) Western New York Flash on Saturday, March 19, at 4 p.m., in Elma, New York.
The squad will then compete at Pitt on Sunday, April 3, at 3 p.m., before playing host to Georgetown on Saturday, April 9, at 1:30 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
WVU is set for two matches the following week at George Mason on Saturday, April 16. The Mountaineers will face Maryland at 1 p.m., and American at 3 p.m.
The Mountaineers close their spring slate against Ohio State on Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Buckeyes are coming off a third-round appearance in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
“Playing against professional athletes and high-caliber NCAA teams will be a great test for us this spring,” Izzo-Brown added. “There’s going to be a high-level of competition on the field this spring, and these matches will help us get to where we want to be in the fall.”
