March 01, 2016 11:37 AM | Women's Soccer
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will hold its annual 4-versus-4 tournament “Three’s a Team…the Fourth’s a Mountaineer” event on Saturday, March 5, at the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility, located next to Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium.
The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. There also will be an open division for college age students and adults. Teams can be male, female or co-ed. Due to NCAA regulations, no individuals in high school may participate.
Each team of three players will be paired with a WVU women’s soccer student-athlete or Mountaineer coach. There is a $75 entry fee, and all proceeds benefit the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.
Registration for the tournament closes tonight. Fans can download a registration form HERE.
“This tournament is so significant to our program because it gives our local fans an opportunity to help an important cause and play with great role models – our student-athletes,” WVU assistant coach Marisa Kanela said. “Everyone enjoys the opportunity to kick breast cancer. There’s honestly no better day than this day for our Mountaineer Family. Our girls look forward to this tournament every year.”
The Mountaineers raised $7,207 in donations for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center last year. The program has raised more than $100,000 for the center over the last decade.
“It’s always important to give back, and our team does a fantastic job throughout the year,” Kanela added. “This cause is so vital to us because it touches many members of our team. Our hope is to help everyone fighting this disease by raising as much money as possible.”
