MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University juniors Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence saw limited action in Canada’s 10-0 win over Guatemala last night in the third match of the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship Texas, at Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium.
The victory, the team’s third straight shutout, moves Canada into the semifinals. The Canadians will face Costa Rica on Friday, Feb. 19, at 5:30 p.m. EST, at BBVA Compass Stadium. The winner secures a spot at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
Due to the short turnaround, Canadian coach John Herdman rested several of the squad’s starters, including Buchanan, a defender, and Lawrence, a midfielder. Buchanan earned the starting nod but only played 62 minutes, while Lawrence entered the match in the 56th minute.
Canada finished at the top of the Group B standings with nine points. Trinidad and Tobago finished second with six points and also advances to the semifinals. Guyana placed third with three points, and Guatemala finished in fourth place with zero points.
