MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A goal and an assist from West Virginia University juniors Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence helped push the Canadian Women’s National Team to a 6-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago yesterday afternoon in the squad’s second of three group matches at the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship Texas, at Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium.
The win advances the Canadians to the championship semifinals with a game to spare.
Up 1-0 late in the first half, Lawrence, an NSCAA All-American midfielder, sent a cross toward the back of the box, and Melissa Tancredi connected to give the team a 2-0 halftime advantage. Following a goal from Christine Sinclair in the 63rd minute, Kadeisha Buchanan, a three-time NSCAA All-American center back, pushed the lead to 4-0 with a goal in the 67th minute. The score was her second career international goal.
Canada will face the already-eliminated Guatemala on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 8:30 p.m. EST, at BBVA Compass Stadium.
