MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball coach Reed Sunahara announced Wednesday that setter Baylee Johnson will join the Mountaineers for the 2017 season. Johnson comes to Morgantown after playing her freshman season at USC and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
“Baylee is a very versatile player,” said Sunahara. “She will bring a competitive edge to our program. We look forward to adding a player of her caliber to our roster.”
A 6-foot setter, Johnson helped the Trojans earn the No. 1 seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, with the squad advancing to the NCAA Regional Championship match to end the season with a 33-3 overall record. She averaged 7.20 assists per set with 19 service aces playing in a 6-2, earning the AVCA Pacific South Region's Freshman of the Year award as well as Pac-12 All-Freshman team honors and Pac-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention. Johnson earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week accolades and finished the season with 19 double-doubles.
Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Johnson played for Centerville High where she was named Ohio All-State, first-team All-District and Player of the Year for the Greater Western Ohio Conference. She was a 2015 Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selection, a 2014 PrepVolleyball.com Top 50 Junior and was a member of the 2013 USAV High Performance All-Tournament team.
