MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team (8-4, 1-1 Big 12) dropped a 3-1 decision to TCU (11-2, 2-0 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon at Hope Coliseum.

In the match, WVU earned its 10^th consecutive first-set victory and 11^th of the season.

The Mountaineers opened with a strong performance, hitting .333 as a team to take an early 1-0 lead. West Virginia recorded 13 kills on 33 attempts with just two errors in the frame, while its defense limited TCU to a .147 hitting percentage in a 25-18 victory.

TCU responded with a tightly contested second set that featured 11 ties and five lead changes. The Horned Frogs jumped out to a 5-2 lead before WVU battled back to tie the set at six. The teams continued to trade points before TCU pulled away late to claim the set, 25-22.

The Horned Frogs carried the momentum into the third set, taking a 25-19 decision before closing out the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth.

WVU was led offensively by senior opposite Trinity Sheridan, who finished with 10 kills. Freshman outside hitter Macie Smith added nine, while senior outside hitter Nina Horning and sophomore right side Anna Barr each recorded eight kills. Senior middle blocker Maddy McGath added seven kills while hitting .583.

Freshman setter Lauren Duncan directed the Mountaineer offense with 20 assists, while senior setter Alexis Finnvold contributed 17. Freshman defensive specialist/libero Reagan Turk anchored the back row with 14 digs, while freshman defensive specialist/libero Cassie Bruns added 12.

The Mountaineers finished the match hitting .201 as a team, while TCU hit .254. WVU held an advantage at the net, totaling nine team blocks compared to six for the Horned Frogs. Freshman middle blocker Mirjam Karoliine Kask led the Mountaineers with five blocks, while Barr and McGath each added four.

TCU was paced by senior outside hitter Becca Kelley, who recorded a match-high 17 kills while hitting .368. Junior outside hitter Evan Hendrix added 14 kills, while freshman middle blocker Kinsley Young and fifth-year outside hitter Jalyn Gibson contributed six and eight, respectively. The Horned Frogs hit .480 in the fourth set to close out the victory.

West Virginia is now 9-18 all-time against TCU and 7-7 in Morgantown. Greeny is now 0-3 against the Horned Frogs and TCU head coach Jason Williams.

The Mountaineers travel for their first Big 12 road test of the season on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. ET against Texas Tech.
