Mountaineers Maintain Top Ranking

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 2016 Big 12 Conference regular-season champion West Virginia University women’s soccer team ranks No. 1 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Poll for the third straight week.
The Mountaineers (15-1-1, 7-0) also sit at No. 1 in today’s Soccer America Women’s Top 25 Poll and in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 Poll, released yesterday.
WVU again received 22 of the available 30 first-place votes. South Carolina (16-0-1, 10-0 SEC) received four votes and ranks No. 2, while Stanford (14-1-1, 7-1 Pac-12) earned three votes and ranks No. 3. USC (13-3, 7-1 Pac-12) received the final first-place vote and ranks No. 4. BYU (13-2-1, 3-1-1 WCC) sits at No. 5.
Duke (12-3-2, 7-1-1 ACC) ranks No. 6 and is followed by Virginia (12-3-2, 5-2-2 ACC) at No. 7 and Florida State (12-2-2, 6-1-2 ACC) at No. 8. UCLA (12-3-1, 6-1-1 Pac-12) and Georgetown (13-2-2, 4-1-2 Big East) round out the top 10.
WVU also sits at No. 2 in this week’s NCAA RPI.
The Mountaineers clinched their fifth straight conference crown with a 3-0 win at TCU on Oct. 21. WVU is the only program in Big 12 women’s soccer history to earn five consecutive outright titles.
WVU rides an eight-match win streak into its regular-season finale on Oct. 28, against Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. It’s Senior Night, and WVU will honor its four seniors prior to first kick. Trunk or Treat will be held in the Coliseum Blue Gate parking lot from 5-7 p.m., and any youths in eighth grade or below dressed in costume will receive free admission into the match. Additionally, the first 150 WVU students through the gate Friday night will receive a free WVU bucket hat, courtesy of Coca Cola.
