MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior midfielder Jad Arslan has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week after scoring two goals, including the game-winner, in the West Virginia University men’s soccer team’s 3-1 upset victory at No. 22 Akron on Saturday.
Arslan recorded his second multi-goal match of his career and earned his second career MAC Player of the Week accolade after also being recognized as a freshman in 2014. He is the second Mountaineer to be named MAC Player of the Week this season, joining junior goalkeeper Jose Santos who was honored on Sept. 27.
Both of Arlsan’s goals at Akron came less than eight minutes apart, in the 63rd and 71st minutes. His first goal, which gave WVU a 2-0 lead, proved to be the game-winner, Arslan’s second of the season. Along with his team-high two goals, he led the team with three shots, all on goal, as the Mountaineers handed Akron its first conference loss since 2014.
On the year, the Roswell, Georgia, native leads WVU with four goals and nine points.
WVU’s roadtrip continues at Penn in Philadelphia, on Tuesday, October 25, at 7 p.m. ET. The Mountaineers and Quakers have met twice before and the teams are 1-1 against each other. WVU earned a 1-0 road win in 2014 before a 3-2 double-overtime loss last year at home.
