Foster Earns Big 12 Honor
October 11, 2016 11:38 AM | Women's Soccer
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer goalkeeper Rylee Foster has been named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
The accolade is the first career award for the Cambridge, Ontario, native, and a conference-best sixth honor for a Mountaineer this season.
Oklahoma State’s Courtney Dike and Michela Ongara were named the Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Foster helped the No. 1-ranked Mountaineers (12-1-1, 4-0) push their win streak to five with a pair of Big 12 Conference road wins over the weekend. The rookie made two stops in the team’s 1-0 win at Kansas on Oct. 7, and two more saves in the squad’s 2-0 victory at Iowa State on Oct. 9. Only credited with one shutout as she was relieved against the Cyclones by junior Michelle Newhouse, Foster’s career shutout mark stands at five, the second-best total in the Big 12; the team’s clean sheet season total is eight.
Foster and the Mountaineers have yet to allow a goal in Big 12 play and have allowed six opponent scores all season, the third-fewest goals allowed in the NCAA. She ranks No. 4 nationally with a 0.365 goals-against average (GAA), and WVU ranks No. 6 with a 0.418 GAA.
The Mountaineers return to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this week for a match against Texas Tech on Friday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. The contest will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
The first 175 fans into the stadium Friday night will receive a free “Almost Heaven” long sleeve t-shirt. Additionally, the first 75 Mountaineer Maniacs inside the gate will receive a free scarf.
Friday night is the team’s annual “Soctoberfest” celebration, and specialty German food and beverage options will be available at the concession stands. It also is “Good Student Night.” Youths 13 years and younger who bring an assignment or test with an ‘A’ or star on it will receive free admission.
Tickets are on sale now at WVUGAME.com. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youths and senior citizens and $2 for groups of 10 or more. WVU students are admitted free with a valid WVU Student I.D.
