MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Just days before the No. 11/15 West Virginia University women’s soccer 2015 home season opener at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, WVU officials have announced several exciting promotions for Mountaineer fans.
“There are so many excellent matches scheduled for Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this season, and I’m excited to play with that great home-field advantage we’ve grown accustomed to,” said Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “Fans not only have the chance to cheer for this 2015 team, but they also have an opportunity to celebrate the program’s 20th season with us all year long. There’s no question that we have the best fan base in the nation, and I hope these promotions add to their experience throughout the year.”
In celebration of the program’s 20th season, a special giveaway will be awarded to 20 fans at each home contest this year.
Three “Dollar Days” are scheduled this season, with the first set for the Mountaineers home season opener against Duquesne on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 3 p.m. All tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas are available for $1 each on “Dollar Days,” with the promotion also running for the Florida Gulf Coast match, set for Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m., and the TCU match on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.
New this season, the Mountaineers will meet with fans and sign autographs following four 1 p.m. Sunday matches: Villanova on Sept. 6, Longwood on Sept. 13, Florida Gulf Coast on Sept. 20 and Iowa State on Oct. 18. The team also will sign autographs following this Sunday’s home opener.
The Mountaineers will celebrate 20 seasons of WVU women’s soccer on Friday, Sept. 4, against NCAA quarterfinalist Penn State. The match, set for a 7 p.m. kick, is a “Gold Rush,” and all fans are encouraged to wear gold. Additionally, the first 200 Mountaineer Maniacs will receive a women’s soccer t-shirt.
Local youth soccer players are encouraged to wear their team jersey to WVU’s 1 p.m. match against Villanova on Sept. 6, and the first 20 through the gates will receive a free red hair braid.
The Mountaineers will host a free postgame clinic for kids 13 and under at Dreamswork Field following the team’s 1 p.m. match against Longwood on Sunday, Sept. 13. It also is “Camper Reunion Day,” with free admission for those who wear their 2015 camp t-shirt. Additionally, kids under 13 who bring a completed Musket Coloring Sheet to the DDSS gate will receive one free youth admission and will be entered into a drawing to win a plush Musket toy. The coloring sheet will be available at WVUsports.com.
Youth Soccer Day also is scheduled for the team’s Sept. 20 match vs. FGCU, and youth soccer teams will have the opportunity to participate in a parade at halftime.
WVU, the three-time reigning Big 12 Conference champions, opens its conference season against Texas on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. All fans will have the opportunity to take their picture with the team’s 2014 Big 12 regular-season and championship trophies prior to kickoff. Additionally, the first 200 fans through the gate will receive a WVU Big 12 t-shirt, and the first 100 Mountaineer Maniacs will receive gym shorts. Additionally, Mountaineer alums will be honored at halftime as part of alumni weekend.
The annual “Pink Match” for breast cancer awareness is scheduled for the team’s contest against TCU on Oct. 2. Fans are encouraged to wear pink that day, and the team will present a check to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at halftime. The match also is the team’s “Soctoberfest” celebration, and specialty German food and beverage options will be available at the concession stands.
New this season is “BOGO Coke & Popcorn,” where fans can buy one popcorn or Coke product and receive a second one free when the Mountaineers take on Kansas on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Additionally, the first 500 fans will receive a free megaphone, and the first 150 Mountaineer Maniacs will receive a Maniac scarf.
