Route Changes for Mountaineer Mantrip
August 25, 2015 04:35 PM | Football
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - With the ongoing construction taking place at Milan Puskar Stadium, the Mountaineer Mantrip will have a new route for the 2015 football season.
"The Mountaineer Mantrip is an important part of the gameday experience at Milan Puskar Stadium," said Matt Wells, WVU Associate Director of Athletics/External Relations. "We felt it was very important to adjust the Mantrip route while construction is taking place this season so our fans could continue to greet the team as they arrive at the Stadium."
The walk, a nod to the state’s proud coal industry and heritage, will begin this year when the team is dropped off along Don Nehlen Drive at the southern-most entrance to the Light Blue Lot. The band and cheerleaders will continue to lead the team along the Mountaineer Mantrip route through the Light Blue Lot to the East Gate of Milan Puskar Stadium. Fans are encouraged to greet the team approximately two hours and 20 minutes prior to kickoff, along the new Mountaineer Mantrip path.
The West Virginia football Mountaineer Mantrip, a team walk originated by head coach Dana Holgorsen in 2011, rallies the WVU fans before each home game. The Mantrip is named after the shuttle that typically transports miners down into an underground mine at the start of their shift.
