MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer junior Kadeisha Buchanan was named to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 All-Star Squad, as unveiled today in conjunction with the publication of the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) Technical Report.
Buchanan, the tournament’s Best Young Player, was one of seven defenders named to the list.
“This honor speaks highly of what the FIFA Technical Support Group thinks of Kadeisha’s technical and tactical play at center back, especially against the world’s best talent,” said WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “The group’s vote of confidence really says a lot about how well Kadeisha played throughout the tournament on the game’s biggest stage.”
The Canadians’ starting center back for all five tournament matches, Buchanan helped Canada advance to the quarterfinal for the second time in six tries. Canada was eliminated in the round of eight following a 2-1 defeat to eventual third-place finisher England on June 27.
A two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American and the two-time reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, Buchanan has collected a slew of awards throughout the buildup to her third season with the No. 12-ranked Mountaineers. She was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and the 2015 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Award Watch List, and also landed at No. 1 on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Preseason Top 100 List, as well as the TDS Preseason Best XI First Team.
WVU opens its 2015 season at the Indiana Tournament this weekend, at Armstrong Field, in Bloomington, Indiana. The Mountaineers face Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 21, and No. 13 Virginia Tech at noon on Aug. 23.
