Means Tosses a No-Hitter for Delmarva

Former West Virginia University baseball left-handed pitcher John Means tossed a no-hitter on Friday afternoon for the Delmarva Shorebirds, the Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
Means blanked the Charleston RiverDogs, 4-0, in the first game of a doubleheader, striking out six, walking a batter and hitting a batter. He threw 57 of 78 pitches for strikes and it was the first no-hitter for Delmarva since 1998.
"It was really cool. That was my first one ever, first anywhere that I even came close, so that was really cool," Means told MiLB.com. "It was nice to finish it off. I didn't expect everyone to come charging at me with water bottles, but it was a cool feeling."
Means, who is the No. 29 prospect in the Orioles organization, has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six-straight starts and his season ERA has lowered to 3.48.
"It feels pretty good, but looking back, that was not the best I've felt, to be honest," Means said to MiLB.com. "I had a lot of help from my defense. They hit me pretty good in the first, but toward the end I settled in, got the changeup in the game and kept them off-balance."
Playing on the other side for the RiverDogs were former Mountaineers Sean Carley and Billy Fleming. Carley did not see action on the mound, while Fleming played third base and went 0-for-2 against the southpaw.
For the season, Means is 8-7 with a 3.48 ERA in 20 starts. He has struck out 78 batters in 103.1 innings. Means was drafted by the Orioles in the 11th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
