MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University juniors Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence will compete for the Canadian Women’s National Team at the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games, July 11-25, at CIBC Hamilton Pan Am Soccer Stadium.
The Canadians open the Games against Ecuador on Saturday, July 11, at 9:05 p.m. ET. The team will then face Costa Rica on Wednesday, July 15, at 8:35 p.m. ET, and will conclude preliminary play against Brazil on Sunday, July 19, at 8:35 p.m. ET.
The women’s semi-final matches are set for Wednesday, July 22. The third-place match will be on Friday, July 24, and the championship match is set for July 25.
Eight women’s teams will compete in 2015, with three of the top-seven women’s nations’ squads in action. Canada drew Brazil, 1-1, in the 2011 Pan Am Games Championship match and earned the Gold medal with a 4-3 edge in penalty kicks.
Buchanan, a defender and native of Brampton, Ontario, and Lawrence, a midfielder and native of Toronto, return to competition for Canada following their time with the team at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The duo started all five matches for Canada at the tournament. Lawrence scored the squad’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Netherlands on June 15, while Buchanan earned the Hyundai Young Player Award.
