Mountaineers No. 7 in Final TDS.com Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team is ranked No. 7 in the final 2015 TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 Poll.
The Mountaineers were ranked within the poll’s top 10 each week but the first two this season. WVU hit as high as a program-best No. 2 on Oct. 12 and held the ranking for four weeks. The Mountaineers were positioned at No. 5 in their last contest of the season, a 2-0 loss at eventual National Champion Penn State in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight on Nov. 28.
Today’s final ranking is eight spots better than the team’s No. 15 ranking in the final poll of 2014.
The Nittany Lions (22-3-2, 8-2-1 Big Ten) sit at the top of the poll following their 1-0 victory over Duke in the 2015 College Cup National Championship on Dec. 6.
The Blue Devils (14-6-5, 4-3-3 ACC) sit at No. 2, with Florida State (18-3-4, 6-1-3 ACC) following at No. 3 and Rutgers (19-4-3, 7-2-2 Big Ten) at No. 4. Virginia (19-1-3, 9-1 ACC) ranks No. 5.
Stanford (19-2-2, 10-0-1 Pac-12) sits in front of the Mountaineers (19-3-1, 6-0-1). Texas A&M (17-7-2, 6-4-1 SEC) follows at No. 8, and Florida (19-4-1, 8-2-1 SEC) and Connecticut (19-4, 8-1 AAC) rank No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
Texas Tech (14-4-5, 2-2-3) is the only additional Big 12 Conference team in the final poll and ranks No. 18.
The Mountaineers capped off their record-setting 2015 season with the program’s second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. WVU finished with a record 19 victories and won its fourth straight Big 12 Conference regular-season title, the only team in conference history to win four consecutive outright titles. The Mountaineers also posted a program-record 15 shutouts and 61 goals.
