Elliott Named Distinguished Scholar Athlete

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer junior defender Jack Elliott was named a Distinguished Scholar Athlete by the Mid-American Conference for the second consecutive season, adding to an impressive list of postseason awards for the London, England, native.
Already an Academic All-American this year, Elliott was voted a Distinguished Scholar Athlete by the faculty athletic representatives at each MAC school as one of the 'best of the best' from this year’s men’s soccer Academic All-MAC Team.
“There is no questioning Jack’s commitment towards being the best student-athlete he can possibly be,” WVU coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “His actions both in the classroom and on the pitch serve as a testament to the mission of our program. Our program, athletic department and institution are 100 percent committed to providing our student-athletes everything they need to achieve at the highest level.”
A business and economics major, Elliott has a 4.00 grade point average. He is a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-America honoree for the second consecutive season, and Elliott has also been named to the Academic All-MAC Team this year. In his career, Elliott also has been named to the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll, the President’s List and the Academic All-Big 12 At-Large Team.
Elliott turned in an impressive junior season on the pitch as well. He played in 18 matches, made 17 starts and logged 1,400 minutes, including seven matches where he played all 90 minutes. Elliott scored a career-best three goals with one assist for a career-high seven points, tied for fourth on the team. The highlight goal came when he notched the game-winner with 1:01 left and added an assist in the first half of the Mountaineers’ victory over Northern Illinois in the regular-season finale on Nov. 6 to keep their postseason hopes alive.
