MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer junior defender Jack Elliott was named to the 2015 Academic All-America Second Team today, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
It is the second Academic All-America honor for the London, England, native, who was named to the third team as a sophomore in 2014.
“Congratulations to Jack on this outstanding achievement,” WVU coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “Having Jack earn Academic-All-America honors again speaks volumes of WVU’s commitment to our student-athletes. Our program takes great pride in succeeding on the field and even more importantly on pursuing that same excellence in the classroom. Jack’s example continues the culture of ‘academics first’ and soccer at the highest level at West Virginia University.”
Majoring in business and economics, Elliott owns a 4.00 grade point average. Along with Academic All-America accolades, he earned Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors and Academic All-MAC and All-Big 12 At-Large Team accolades one season ago. In his career, Elliott also has been named to the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and the President’s List.
Elliott’s play on the pitch was equally impressive this season. He played in 18 matches with 17 starts and logged 1,400 minutes, including seven matches where he played all 90 minutes. Elliott scored a career-best three goals with one assist for a career-best seven points, tied for fourth on the team. The highlight goal came when he notched the game-winner with 1:01 left and added an assist in the first half in the Mountaineers’ match vs. Northern Illinois in the regular-season finale on Nov. 6 that kept their postseason hopes alive.
