Fan Experience Our No. 1 Priority
October 07, 2015 04:39 PM | Football
As you are well aware, renovation work continues on the east side of Milan Puskar Stadium as improvements are being made to the overall fan experience and atmosphere at our home football games.
Significant progress has been made since preliminary work began earlier this summer, and when the entire project is completed before the start of the 2017 season, I am confident the changes underway will make our stadium experience among the best in the country.
In the meantime, I continue to ask for your patience and understanding as we make these necessary improvements.
The feedback I have received so far through the first three home games has generally been very positive, but there are some areas that we will continue to monitor while work continues on the stadium.
Specifically:
* The north gate entrance continues to experience heavy traffic as one of the stadium’s primary points of entry. There was significant congestion in that area during our last home game against Maryland, and some of that can be attributed to the Brad Paisley performance, in addition to the large turnout we had.
However, for this weekend’s homecoming game against Oklahoma State and our remaining home games against Texas Tech, Texas and Iowa State, I encourage fans entering that part of the stadium to leave their tailgates a little bit earlier than usual to avoid the game-time rush. I also urge fans to use other gates to enter the stadium, particularly at the south end where there is much less congestion.
In the meantime, we will be adding additional scanners to help ease the congestion at some of our busiest entry points.
* Stadium parking is another area that we will continue to monitor. We suggest fans take advantage of our free parking at the WVU Coliseum and use the $4 shuttle service to the stadium. Our ADA shuttle service also runs from the Coliseum and goes directly to the stadium gate.
For those with reserved parking spaces at Milan Puskar Stadium, we ask that you are considerate of your neighbors as you set up your tailgates. We have received numerous reports of fans taking up additional spaces or reserving spots for their neighbors, which reduce the overall efficiency of the parking process due to the large concentration of vehicles our parking staff must accommodate before game time.
We will continue to evaluate all of the lots in an effort to improve the orderliness and fairness of our parking procedures.
* As for our concession stands, we are continuing to work with our vendors to improve that aspect of our game-day experience. Some of the issues fans have encountered with long lines and wait times simply cannot be avoided until the stadium’s concourse refurbishments are completed, but in the meantime, we continue to explore ways of making the experience more tolerable as these necessary improvements are being made.
We ask for your continued patience and understanding as we work through these issues – some of which date back to the initial construction of the stadium in 1980. We are trying - and will continue - to improve a 35-year-old facility so that your game day experience is a positive one.
And finally, I want Milan Puskar Stadium to be a fan-friendly environment for all in attendance. Let me remind you that if you ever need to report an incident or need assistance at the stadium, please find the nearest event staff member, or, text (AID) to 31046 or call 304-293-FANS. The request will be directed to our stadium dispatcher to help resolve the matter.
In conclusion, I want to reiterate that we are listening to you, and more importantly, we are hearing you as well.
