Mountaineers in the Pros Update: Week 5

Three weeks of the NFL season are complete. Former Mountaineer Adam Jones had a big week with six tackles, a pass deflection and an interception in Cincinnati’s victory over Baltimore.

Alford joins former Mountaineers Will Clarke and Adam Jones on the Cincinnati roster. The 5-foot-9 wide receiver was drafted in the seventh round by the Bengals this spring. He has been inactive for the Bengal’s first four games this season. Cincinnati takes on defending NFC Champion Seattle on Sunday.
Tavon Austin put together his best performance of the season with six catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns in St. Louis’ 24-22 win at Arizona. Austin’s longest reception was a 47-yard grab from Nick Foles in the second quarter helping St. Louis tack on a field goal to take a 10-6 lead. Also with 8:16 remaining, Austin snatched a 12-yard pass to give the Rams’ the game-winning touchdown. Austin carried the ball twice for 20 yards and ranks second on the Rams with 14 catches for 138 yards. St. Louis travels to Green Bay on Sunday.
It was the WVU show for St. Louis this past weekend, as all three of the Rams’ touchdowns came from former Mountaineers. Stedman Bailey caught two passes for 30 yards. His 18-yard grab in the third quarter gave St. Louis a 17-9 edge. Bailey has snatched six receptions for 88 yards and one touchdown this season. St. Louis visit Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Barclay made his third start at San Francisco last week. The fourth-year pro played in all 73 of Green Bay’s offensive snaps last week against the 49ers, helping Green Bay to the 17-3 victory. The Packers host St. Louis this weekend.

Capers made the start on the offensive line after a few injuries for the Bombers. Winnipeg fell 24-23 to Capers’ old team, Edmonton, last Saturday. The team hopes to regroup at British Columbia this weekend.

Clarke recorded a tackle in Cincinnati’s 36-21 victory over Kansas City last week. He has notched two tackles and a pass deflection in four games this season. Cincinnati hosts Seattle on Sunday.
Terence Garvin recorded a tackle on special teams in Pittsburgh’s 23-20 loss to Baltimore last Thursday. Garvin has made two stops in four games. Pittsburgh plays San Diego on Monday Night Football next week.
Najee Goode played in Sunday’s game at Washington, in which the Eagles fell, 23-20. He has recorded two tackles this season. Philadelphia hosts New Orleans on Sunday.

Mark Glowinski was active for the first time on Monday, though the fourth round draft pick did not play in Seattle’s 13-10 win over Detroit. The Seahawks travel to Cincinnati on Sunday.
Will Johnson participated in his fourth game of the season with Pittsburgh last Thursday. On the year, Johnson has four rushing attempts for seven yards and a touchdown. Pittsburgh plays at San Diego next Monday.
Adam Jones recorded a tackle in Cincinnati’s triumph over Kansas City. However, Jones left early in the third quarter with a groin injury. He had suffered an elbow injury the week prior at Baltimore. Jones has 26 tackles, four pass deflections and an interception in four games for the Bengals this season.

After having a breakout season in his first year with Chicago, Munday was placed on the injured reserve list last month after sustaining a hip injury. Munday had a career-best 103 tackles and four interceptions in 2014 for the Bears.
Shaq Riddick begins his rookie campaign after being selected in the fifth round (158th overall) by Arizona in this year’s draft. Riddick has been inactive the past four weeks. Arizona travels to Detroit on Sunday.

White was drafted seventh overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2015 NFL Draft. White signed his contract in May, but suffered a setback in August. The Bears announced that White will start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform list due to a surgery needed to repair a stress fracture in his shin.
