MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team maintains its historical No. 3 ranking in today’s National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Poll.
The Mountaineers (14-1-1, 5-0-1) first hit their program-best position in the NSCAA Poll last week. WVU has ranked within the top 10 every week but two this season. Prior to this year, the Mountaineers hit No. 6 three times in 2006.
Florida State (13-1-1, 6-0-1 ACC) and Virginia (11-1-1, 5-1 ACC) continue to rank No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The Seminoles received 30 of the possible 31 first-place votes; WVU also received one first-place vote. The Mountaineers trail the Cavaliers by 39 points.
Stanford (12-2, 6-0 Pac-12) and BYU (12-1-1, 4-0 WCC) follow the Mountaineers at No. 4 and No. 5.
Clemson (11-2-1, 5-2 ACC) holds steady at No. 6 and is followed by Virginia Tech (13-2-1, 5-2 ACC) at No. 7. Florida (11-3-1, 5-2-1 SEC), North Carolina (11-3-1, 4-3 ACC) and Penn State (11-3-2, 6-2-1 Big Ten) round out the top 10.
Texas Tech (8-3-5, 1-2-3), the only other Big 12 Conference team ranked this week, is down four spots to No. 21.
The TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week also was announced today, and freshman defender Bianca St. Georges received honorable mention recognition. The St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, native, helped the Mountaineer defense hold Kansas and Iowa State to three combined shots on-goal in a pair of shutout wins last weekend. St. Georges also factored into the team’s scoring, assisting on Amanda Hill’s first goal against the Jayhawks on Oct. 16. She now shows five assists on the season.
The Mountaineers close their regular-season schedule with back-to-back Big 12 Conference Friday night road matches. WVU’s first trip is to Oklahoma State this Friday, Oct. 23, with kick from the Cowgirl Soccer Complex set for 8 p.m. ET.
