WVU Maintains No. 2 Ranking

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second straight week, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team is ranked No. 2 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 Poll.
The Mountaineers (14-1-1, 5-0-1) maintained their position following a two-win weekend in their final regular-season homestand at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. WVU defeated Kansas, 6-0, on Oct. 16, and Iowa State, 4-0, on Oct. 18.
WVU’s ranking is the team’s highest ever in any poll. Ranked No. 10 in the preseason poll, the squad has ranked outside the top 10 only twice this season.
The top four remains unchanged, as Florida State (13-1-1, 6-0-1 ACC) continues to rank No. 1, and BYU (12-1-1, 4-0 WCC) and Virginia (11-1-1, 5-1) follow WVU at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Stanford is up one spot to No. 5 (12-2, 6-0 Pac-12).
Notre Dame (11-3-1, 4-3 ACC) ranks No. 6, and Clemson (11-2-1, 5-2 ACC) and Virginia Tech (13-2-1, 5-2 ACC) sit at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. Following a 1-0 loss to No. 14 Rutgers on Oct. 18, Penn State (11-3-2, 6-2-1 Big Ten) is down four spots to No. 9, and Florida (11-3-1, 5-2-1 SEC) ranks No. 10.
WVU is the only Big 12 Conference team ranked in this week’s poll.
The fifth NCAA Women’s Soccer RPI also was released today, and WVU continues sit at No. 9, the team’s highest position of the season. The Mountaineers are the best-positioned Big 12 team, with Texas Tech (8-3-5, 1-2-3) sitting at No. 34 and Texas (7-3-4, 4-1-1) at No. 42.
FSU continues to rank No. 1 and is followed by: Clemson, Penn State, Auburn (12-3), Rutgers (12-2-2), Connecticut (14-2), Florida, Virginia, WVU and Stanford.
The Mountaineers close their regular-season schedule with back-to-back Big 12 Conference Friday night road matches. WVU’s first trip is to Oklahoma State this Friday, Oct. 23, with kick from Cowgirl Soccer Complex set for 8 p.m. ET.
