Mackenzie Castillo joined West Virginia University athletics in August 2021 and currently serves as the athletic trainer for the Mountaineer’s swimming & diving teams.
Castillo’s responsibilities include day-to-day care, rehabilitation and injury prevention.
She arrived at WVU after serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Campbell University, working primarily with softball and women’s swimming. Castillo also worked as the host athletic trainer the 2020 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament and for the final four teams of the 2019 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup.
Prior to Campbell, she worked at Appalachian State University with the women’s field hockey team as an intern athletic trainer and preceptor for the CAATE accredited athletic training program.
Castillo earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training and a minor in biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2018. While in Charlotte, she worked as an athletic training student, working with UNCC football and women’s golf, and at Davidson College with football, women’s lacrosse and women’s soccer, and at Queens University of Charlotte with women’s lacrosse and women’s soccer.
