David Simms joined Mountaineer Athletics in January 2021 as the department’s inaugural McLendon Leadership Initiative Fellow, was elevated to assistant director of athletics marketing in May 2021 and was promoted to associate director in September 2022. He is the direct sports marketing contact for women’s soccer, women’s basketball and the Mountaineer Kids Club.
Simms also serves as chair of the department’s ‘Every Mountaineer’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee.
Simms began his career in collegiate athletics as an event management intern with the University of Kentucky Athletics department and was a graduate assistant with Kentucky Athletics Operations from 2018-2020. His work experience also includes a stint as a business operations intern with the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League.
A native of Concord, North Carolina, Simms earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Kentucky in the spring of 2018 and an MBA from UK in 2020.
Simms resides in Morgantown.
