Tyler Cheng was named the athletic data statistician for WVU men’s basketball in July 2019 after serving as a program assistant for one season.
No stranger to WVU basketball, Cheng enters his ninth season on the WVU basketball staff after serving four years as a graduate assistant, head manager and student manager.
A native of London, Ontario, Cheng graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in business management and organizational studies and a specialization in accounting.
At WVU, he earned a master’s degree in athletic coaching education in 2016 and a master’s degree in public administration in 2018.
In addition to WVU, Cheng’s basketball experience includes serving as an associate coach at Fanshawe College (2013-14), head coach of the Ontario Talent Identification & Development Program U16 boys basketball summer team (2013-14), head coach STA high school boys’ basketball (2012-14), head coach Gold Medal Club boys’ basketball (2008-14) and as a carded basketball referee for the London Board of Basketball Officials (2006-12).
