Hunter Gross arrived at West Virginia in December 2020 and serves as the athletic trainer for the Mountaineer baseball team.
Gross came to WVU after a four-year stint at Charleston Southern, where he worked primarily with the CSU baseball and women’s golf teams from 2017-20. During his time with the Buccaneers, Gross created exercise and mobility programs and warmup routines to help optimize on-field performance. He also utilized a variety of therapy techniques to help with injury prevention and rehabilitation.
In addition to his time at Charleston Southern, Gross spent three seasons at USA Baseball, serving as an athletic trainer. He educated players on the specifics of proper nutrition and hydration, as well as provided medical coverage for several international events. He was a part of the gold-medal-winning 12U National Team at the 2017 WBSC World Cup and 15U National Team at the 2019 COPABE Pan-Am “AA” Championship.
Gross also worked at Valdosta State as a graduate assistant from 2015-17, while working on his master’s degree. He spent time with the school’s baseball football and softball teams.
A native of Anniston, Alabama, Gross graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training in 2015. He also earned his master’s in higher education leadership at Valdosta State in 2017.
Gross is a National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) member and holds certification with the American Heart Association BLS Provider. He resides in Morgantown with his fiancé, Katie, and dog, Watson.
