Former Mountaineer Zach Bargeron is in his second season on the WVU baseball staff and first as the team’s volunteer assistant.
Bargeron assists the pitching staff with daily activities, reviews and implements the use of technology and data and assists with recruiting student-athletes. He also coordinates the team’s community service initiatives, assists with strength and conditioning and serves as a liaison for academics, compliance and admissions.
Bargeron’s responsibilities on the WVU baseball staff also include assisting with camps and coordinating incoming student-athletes’ transitions to WVU.
He spent the 2017-18 season as the director of player development, where he also managed the team’s sleep study program.
Bargeron returns to WVU after spending three years as the pitching coach at Gar-Field Senior High. He helped coach six players who went on to play collegiate baseball, including one who was a top-10-ranked recruit in Virginia.
Bargeron also taught special education at Gar-Field.
He also spent two summers (2016 and ’17) as the pitching coach for the Evoshield Canes, where he coached nine players who signed to play Division I baseball.
A left-handed pitcher for the Mountaineers from 2011-14, Bargeron played in 41 career games with 12 starts and 81.2 innings pitched. He posted a 4-4 record with an ERA of 5.84 and 38 strikeouts.
From Manassas, Virginia, Bargeron graduated from West Virginia in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in athletic coaching education with a minor in sports and exercise psychology.
