Cody Atkinson enters his first season as a member of the West Virginia baseball coaching staff.
For the 2016-17 season, Atkinson’s primary responsibilities will be coaching the catchers, assisting the hitters and coaching first base. Additionally, Atkinson coordinates the team’s camps throughout the year.
Before joining the Mountaineers, Atkinson served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for four seasons (2012-2016) at Everett Community College in Everett, Washington.
While at Everett, Atkinson coached the infield and ran the offense in addition to serving as the hitting coach. In his first season, Atkinson helped guide the Trojans to their first NWAC championship in school history. Everett went 39-9 in 2012, en route to the title while posting a .316 batting average.
Under his watch in 2016, the Trojans led the Northwest Athletic Conference in home runs (26), doubles (111), and finished with a .301 batting average. Everett also went on to win the NWAC North Division with a record of 16-8 and finished second in the conference.
Atkinson is a graduate of Everett Community College, where he played baseball and earned his associate of arts degree in 2009. He continued his playing career at Centenary College of Louisiana (2010) and Corban University (2012) before earning a bachelor’s of science degree in kinesiology/sports administration from Lewis-Clark State College in 2014.
Atkinson is married to Kristina Rempel.
