Wimes Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University soccer redshirt senior Saige Wimes has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the Mountaineers' 2-1 victory over Army on Aug. 30.
After WVU opened the scoring, Army quickly responded to even the match at 1-1 with five minutes remaining in regulation. In the 86th minute, Wimes connected on the rebound of a blocked shot, finding the back of the net to put the Mountaineers ahead, 2-1.
The goal marked Wimes' first as a Mountaineer and her first of the season since transferring to WVU.
Wimes' game-winner helped West Virginia improve to 4-0 on the season, marking the program's best start since 2006.
