No. 7 WVU Prepares for First Road Match of Year at Princeton

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 7-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team begins its first road trip of the season at Princeton on Thursday, Aug. 27. Kickoff at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium in Princeton, N.J., is set for 7 p.m. ET.
The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+, with Jeff O'Connor and Morgan Wiese on the call, while live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Thursday's match marks just the fifth meeting all time between West Virginia and Princeton, as the Mountaineers hold a 3-1 advantage in the series. The two teams will face each other for the first time since 2017 on Thursday, as the last meeting resulted in a 1-0 WVU win in Princeton. The Mountaineers and Tigers first met in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008, with WVU earning a 2-1 win in Morgantown to move on to the Second Round.
Of note, Thursday's trip to Princeton will mark just the second time West Virginia has traveled to Princeton, New Jersey, while the Tigers have traveled to Morgantown three times.
Last time out, West Virginia secured a 2-0 win over Duquesne on Aug. 23, to start the season 3-0, the squad's best start since 2006. Junior forward/defender Sophia Nickel scored the game winner for the third straight match, while redshirt junior defender Gianna Koss also notched her first goal of the season in the match.
Three Mountaineers collected weekly honors for their performances last week. Koss was named to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week, while senior defender Olivia Shertzer and Nickel were honored as Big 12 Conference Players of the Week. Shertzer was named the defensive player of the week, and Nickel was honored as the offensive player of the week.
Sean Driscoll is in his 12th year as the head coach at Princeton and has led the Tigers to five Ivy League titles during his tenure. Princeton enters Thursday's match with a 1-1 record, coming off a 3-0 loss to Syracuse on Aug. 23. Three different players have scored for Princeton this year, while Kayla Wong has tallied a pair of assists.
