MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Gavin Kelly and redshirt junior Maxx Yehl have been named the District 2 Co-Players of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
It is the sixth time that a WVU player has taken home the honor as Yehl and Kelly join JJ Wetherholt (2023), Alek Manoah (2019), Braden Zarbnisky (2017), and Jedd Gyorko (2009, 2010).
Kelly is hitting .384 this season with 17 home runs and 57 RBI. Additionally, he has 89 hits, including 21 doubles and three triples, while scoring 66 runs. It adds to his list of honors this season as he was named All-Big 12 First Team and the NCAA Morgantown Regional Most Valuable Player.
Yehl has been stellar on the mound for the Mountaineers with a 9-2 record while pitching to a 2.10 ERA and collecting 105 strikeouts in 90.0 innings pitched. His ERA leads the Big 12 and is sixth in the nation. This season, Yehl has already taken home Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and was named as one of five finalists for National Pitcher of the Year.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Friday at 2 p.m. ET against Troy in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
