Smith Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Graduate student Sean Smith of the No. 15 West Virginia University baseball team has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
In four games, Smith hit .600 (9-for-15) with four doubles, six RBI, and four runs scored as WVU went 3-1 against Marshall and Texas Tech. He had a hit in all four games including a four-hit day on Sunday against the Red Raiders and finished the week with a 1.514 OPS.
The Moss Point, Miss. native is the fourth Mountaineer to take home a Big 12 honor this season, joining Maxx Yehl (Pitcher, 3/16), Gavin Kelly (Player, 3/2), and Dawson Montesa (Newcomer, 3/2). It is the 21st time a Mountaineer has been named Newcomer of the Week as Smith becomes the 19th different WVU player to earn the honor.
The Mountaineers will be back on Wednesday, April 15, against Penn State from Meritus Park in Hagerstown, Maryland. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
