Mountaineers Cruise to Victory Over Ohio in Home Opener

Sophomore Matt Ineich went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored against his former squad. Seniors Brock Wills and Matthew Graveline each hit home runs while senior Paul Schoenfeld recorded a double and a triple. Schoenfeld and Wills both finished the game with three RBI.
Nine pitchers saw action for the Mountaineers with David Hagen earning the win, throwing two scoreless innings.
The Mountaineers took an early lead in the first with a run. In the second, Schoenfeld capped a four-run inning with a two-run triple. WVU put up another run in the third before Wills hit a three-run home run in the fourth to jump out to a 9-0 lead.
Ohio answered with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth, but the Mountaineers responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Graveline hit a two-run home run, his third of the season, before Ineich drove in two with a double. Junior Armani Guzman then collected his second RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly.
In the eighth, the Mountaineers added five more runs on a wild pitch, a two-run double by freshman Colton Sims, and two-run single by redshirt-freshman Ryan Maggy.
West Virginia will return to action on Friday to begin a three-game series at Kennesaw State. First pitch from Mickey Dunn Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
